In the last few months, with an ease in restrictions amid the COVID pandemic, NCR has lured several filmmakers and actors to continue film production in the region. In effect, many celebrities such as Akshay Kumar, Ayushmann Khurrana, Kangana Ranaut, Ranbir Kapoor, Arjun Rampal, Sara Ali Khan, John Abraham, Paresh Rawal, Satish Kaushik and more have been shooting for their upcoming projects in NCR.
Shoots happening in college stadiums, schools, farmhouses and more
In the last few months, several web series and films have been shot at colleges in Delhi and Greater Noida and at farmhouses in Gurgaon and south Delhi. Officials say they’ve seen a sudden surge in permission for film shoots. Atul Thakur, DCP South, Delhi Police, says, “We have given 11 shoot permissions since January.” Similarly, north, New Delhi, south east and west districts have also given permissions for film shoots in Delhi.
A source associated with a movie project informs, “As most colleges are partially open, there’s a demand for film shoots there. Not just the colleges of north and south Delhi, but several colleges in Noida and Greater Noida have also received requests for film shoots. Due to sports infrastructure in colleges, filmmakers prefer shooting such sequences in colleges instead of stadiums.”
A source says, “Kangana completed her NCR schedule for Tejas and now the crew has moved to Rajasthan for the shoot. Several scenes were shot at Gautam Buddha University in Greater Noida and NP Boys Senior Secondary school in Delhi. Though the schedule was for three days, it was later extended.”
‘Smaller crews, early morning and late night shoots preferred’
The source adds, “Earlier, during the recce, our focus would be on scene and location, but now while planning a shoot we also ensure that social distancing can be maintained or not. Also, early morning and late night schedules are preferred. Besides, the crew size has become smaller for film shoots.”
In Greater Noida, private colleges, farmhouses and the Metro stations are popular spots for film shoots. A source says, “In January, Ranbir Kapoor and Boney Kapoor completed their shoot at a farmhouse in Noida for Luv Ranjan’s film. Ranbir is expected to be back in a month for the next schedule.” Another source says, “We will be shooting for Fukrey 3 in Delhi in April for which currently we are doing recce at multiple locations in NCR.”
Filmmakers have to sign a declaration for following COVID protocols
A source says, “Even before COVID, those seeking permission for film shoots had to sign a declaration form. But now, to ensure the safety of cast and crew, they are asked to sign a declaration form stating that every person attending the shoot is advised to download Aarogya Setu app; the shoot has to have adequate arrangement for thermal scanners, sanitisers, face masks and gloves; place of shooting needs to be sanitised twice; and so on.”
A line producer says, “There was a lot of backlog for shoots due to the pandemic, and hence there will be more shoots in the coming months. The cost of production has gone up due to these measures. In fact, we sanitise the set after every scene.”
