Coming out from the shadows of superstar father Shatrughan Sinha, Luv Sinha is slowly but gradually making a space for himself in Bollywood. In an exclusive interview with ETimes, the talented actor opened up about growing up in a filmi family, his parents’ advice when he decided to enter showbiz, the bond he shares with his siblings, and more. Excerpts…
Since you were born into a film family, to a superstar like Shatrughan Sinha no less, was it always a given that you’ll veer towards films?
More than my father being a superstar, it was my passion for cinema that led me here. I used to watch so many movies as a child–as many as eight in a day–that my mother had to impose a rule that I wouldn’t watch more than four. She always worried it was too much cinema for a child but I have always been drawn to it. For me, it was not for fame or money but creativity and passion.
Apart from your father, who did you were your film idols growing up?
I respect Amit ji (Amitabh Bachchan) a lot. Govinda bhaiya is one of the greatest actors we’ve ever had in Indian cinema. From the earlier era, I admired Raj Kapoor sahab, Kishore Kumar ji and others. From my generation, I love Hrithik Roshan and also admire Varun Dhawan, as a performer.
Did you ever visit the sets of your father’s films?
All the time! It was an unforgettable experience that many children don’t get to experience. So, I enjoyed and appreciated it even more.

How did your parents react when you first told them about your acting aspiration?
They have always been supportive. However, they also made me understand that just because I was Mr Shatrughan Sinha’s son, it won’t be easy for me. That holds true even today. Just because somebody is born into a film family or a political family, things don’t come easy necessarily. But yes, some children have had it quite easy; that is fine. It is their luck and calculation. I like to work hard and do my best. My father always told me it was not going to be easy. I have been prepared for the difficulties that can come my way.

Does your father advise you while going through scripts?
He just tells me that one should not give up. Once you are demotivated, your confidence is shattered. He told me to not be arrogant and overconfident but instead, believe in myself. Self-belief should also come from the fact that you know what you are capable of. If you think you are best in everything, then you are lying to yourself.

Who are you more close to at home, your brother Kush or Sonakshi?
I am close to both in different ways. With Sonakshi, I have an older brother vibe. When she was young, I made the mistake that every elder brother does, and told her what to do and what not to do. But I don’t do that anymore; she is a grown-up girl now. With my twin brother Kush, I am extremely as twins generally are. As far as my parents are concerned, my father is my inspiration and my mother is my support system. She is the foundation of my house. I am grateful to have my family with me.
