Sidharth: No uncle or aunty recommended me

Birthday boy Sidharth Malhotra hasn’t had it easy in Bollywood unlike the popular perception. Since he was launched by Karan Johar it is more or less assumed that he didn’t have to struggle at all.Looking back at his Bollywood journey, the good looking actor from Delhi told Bombay Times during an interaction, “I had zero experience on camera and no uncle or aunty recommended me, so I could only learn from my mistakes.”

He added, “I did modelling for pocket money. I became an assistant director in my mid 20s (Dostana, My Name is Khan) and I was thrilled to be on set and even do all the dirty jobs that ADs do. I feel it’s just the beginning for me. A lot of hard work has gone into landing from Delhi to Mumbai. Shifting several houses, staying away from family. It has taken me many years to get to Bandra from Malad East (smiles). Malad-Goregaon-Andheri-Juhu and now Bandra. I am in Mumbai since the past ten years!”

Surviving in Bollywood isn’t easy as a few failed films can take a toll on an artiste. Sidharth reminisced, “You have to keep going. I don’t think I have arrived, the best is yet to come. Also, I am not obsessed with what’s written about me. I’d rather do activities that are more fulfilling like travelling, sports, workout, horse-riding, hanging out with my non-industry friends as that gives you a sense of normalcy. If someone’s engaging I can have a conversation with them for hours.”
